Week 3 here on the Beat Busyness Challenge. I hope it is going well for you and you are getting some inspiration from doing the activities and thinking about your time. I am posting this week's challenge a day early and as you read you will see why.As I said last week,Consciously choosing how we spend our time when we can is the single most important thing we can do to create our life. This week I am encouraging you to do something really simple. Edit. Many of us pull out our calendars on Sunday evenings and begin frantically filling in each day with all the mandatory things for each day of the week. I do this. I fill in each day with each class I am teaching and each client I am seeing, work projects that need attention. Then on the right hand side of each day I list out the other things that need to get done on that particular day - phone calls, emails, appointments to make, bills to pay, blah, blah, blah. Also, at the very top of the week I list three to four bigger To Do items that I want to accomplish that week. Before I know it I have filled in a lot of space. We all know, also, that as the days progress there will be other things to be added each day. Those darn family members or work people always seem to want or need something else, right???Before long your calendar may look something like this.
That doesn't look at ALL stressful or overwhelming does it? No wonder folks generally dread Monday mornings! This week I encourage you to practice something that I do when the calendar looks a little too crazy. Edit. Look at what you have listed for each day. If you have written three to five things down that are absolutely not time sensitive or mandatory, edit them out. Strike them off. I bet you have a thing or two that can be moved to another day without any disastrous fallout or even any guilt. (I'm NOT talking about taxes here, so you get my drift!) Sometimes we write lists simply so we can mark items off that list. I get the satisfaction there, but that in itself can be a form of busyness. As you edit your to-do list, think of compiling some of the things. Do you really need to make three trips to the dry cleaners this week? Can't you return that email while you sit in the doctor's office waiting room? Do you HAVE to go to the mall or can you save time and order online? This week I encourage you to edit your days and your week so you can make time to breathe. Make time to do your mandatory tasks unhurried and mindfully. Edit out so you can make some time for you and what will add meaning to your day and your week.
. You CAN find and make the time to do things that are truly important to you if you edit out the things and the busyness that are not really adding to your growth, your experiences and your joy.(I am NOT being an advocate of procrastination or encouraging you to be a slacker, by any means! I hope you do not take this as such or as an excuse to start putting off stuff you know you need to do!)Week Three Activity:This week, edit your to-do list and your calendar. Strike out the two to three things that simply do not have to get done that day. Edit so you can have time for a meaningful day and week. I would love to hear how you are editing and how it makes your days and week any different.Remember to leave a comment on the weekly blog post, on my Instagram or FB Page of how you are unbusying with our weekly activity.
