Best Ways to Move Forward

I spend quite a bit of time talking and writing about moving forward.  You may have noticed.  I’ve used this platform for years to talk about movement and the importance of  moving our bodies and now I’ve done a little pivot or maybe not so much of a pivot but an inclusion of the concept of moving forward. There are lots of reasons for the new focus.  I think it can be one of the most important links to being a whole, healthy person and contributes greatly to our wellbeing.    I’ve seen the value in my own life, in so many others and in some of the clients I have worked with.Physical movement off the couch and moving your body is crucial.  Of course. But so is keeping  forward movement during seasons of life.  Getting stuck “on the couch” and not getting the exercise, building the strength and nourishing your body keeps you from being the healthy, vibrant person you were created to be.  Full of energy, stamina and strength.  Just as importantly, getting stuck in a spot, a rut,  and in life also keeps you from living the full, purposeful and passionate life you were created to live,  as well as finding and keeping your joyful spirit. This is a passion of mine and I think about it constantly – for  myself, for my friends, my sons and anyone who will listen.I also write and jot things down constantly.  I have a collection of notebooks all around me, in my home, car, work bag and purse.  It’s a bit ridiculous.  I have written the phrase “move forward” on many, many notes, notebooks and scraps of paper over the past few years.  Recently, I remember one of my sons seeing the phrase on the bottom of a legal pad one day.  He pointed it out saying , ”That’s what you always say, Mom.”  At least someone is listening . . .Everyone is different as to where they are, where they strive to be, and the best steps for getting there.  (Sometimes we aren’t even sure where we want to be, other than stuck, and that’s okay, too.  It’s all part of the process.)  I have found some good, general action steps that can help.  They all may not be necessary or fitting for you.  I bet you can pick one or some to begin adding to your routine to help you either begin or continue the journey forward.  Remember, too, this is not a one and done thing.  The practice of moving forward is a lifelong adventure of growing, learning and experiencing.  Doesn’t that sound exciting and rewarding? You can do all the physical movement toward longevity, but what fun is that if you are still in the same place -  mentally, emotionally, spiritually -  lacking the purpose, contentment and wellbeing aspect of your life?I’ve created a list of some of the best ways I  have found to move forward – in most any area or season. **Also, Click Below for a PDF versionSteps to Move ForwardWhere are you and where do you want to be?  I know you can get there.  Imagine it.  See it.  As Jordan Peterson says, “Don’t underestimate the power of vision and direction.”
